"President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking at the summit of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), proposed initiating joint scientific, research, and applied work on ecological and climate issues, as well as transboundary water resource management," reported Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
According to Tokayev, these issues affect all SPECA countries, and achieving success alone is impossible. A vivid confirmation of this is the tragedy of the Aral Sea, the consequences of which are felt not only in the countries of the region but also far beyond its borders.

"Next year, as the chair of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, Kazakhstan will focus on intensifying efforts to prevent the degradation of the environment of what was once one of the world's largest enclosed water bodies. Of significant concern is the complex ecological situation in the Caspian Sea, linked to shallowing, a sharp decrease in water flow, reduction of biore sources, and anthropogenic pollution. Saving the Caspian Sea must become a priority for long-term international cooperation. I call upon all interested parties to develop a common action plan to improve the condition of this unique body of water. I am convinced that our mutually beneficial cooperation will strengthen the status of the Caspian Sea as a sea of peace and new opportunities," the President said.
