Speaking with the Address to the people of Kazakhstan, the Head of State Kasym-Jomart Tokayev said that by 2040s water shortage in Kazakhstan may reach 12-15 billion cubic meters, correspondent reports.
"The problem of availability and quality of water resources remains topical. Taking into account the trend of population and economic growth, by 2040 the water deficit in Kazakhstan may reach 12-15 billion cubic meters. Our country depends on the resources of transboundary water sources. Eurasia's rivers and canals are a common natural asset designed to unite peoples and economies," Tokayev said.
As the head of state said, one should always find understanding and mutually beneficial consensus with one's neighbors and friends on this issue.
"Therefore, pursuing a calibrated water policy and solving transboundary water use issues are the most important tasks of the government," the President concluded.
